Cam-actuated pumps; eccentric-actuated pumps; lever-actuated pumps; tappet-actuated pumps; stroke, varying; multiple-delivery piston pumps; strainers. -Apparatus for governing internal - combustion engines comprises an inner eccentric b on the crankshaft a and an outer eccentric c free to move on the inner one and connected by a link e &c. to one of the weights f of a governor on the fly-wheel. The outer eccentric actuates the fuel-pumps of the engine, so that the stroke of the plungers, and consequently the fuel supplied, are controlled by the governor. In one form, the eccentric c is connected by a strap or rod to a rocker i carrying studs &c. k adapted to strike peckers l in contact with the pump plungers n. The peckers l are connected by a link m and are vertically adjustable by the hand-levers u, or by screwed rods x operated by the handle z; they are also adjustable horizontally against the spring B by a pin A operated by a lever, screw, &c., and are made higher at one side than at the other, so that the effective stroke of the studs k may be varied or reduced to zero. In another form, the eccentric c acts directly on the plungers n. In another form, the eccentric acts on a lever, one arm of which is in contact with the plunger, and means are provided for putting the lever out of contact with the eccentric. Strainers t are arranged between the pumps and the supplypipes.
