Abstract

Tappet-actuated pumps; stroke, varying.-In fuelpumps of the kind in which a spring pressed plunger such as 4 is actuated by a tappet 7 operated by the engine and the stroke is varied by an arm 6 interposed between them, the eccentric or cam 11 controlling the position of the arm is connected to the engine governor in such a manner that the position of the cam varies with the speed of the engine. Additional control may be effected by means of an opening 15 in the arm 6 arranged so that the tappet 7 enters the opening without operating the arm at high speeds. When a number of pump pistons have to be operated, a single arm 6 extending across all the pistons may be used, or separate arms for. each piston controlled by a single cam 11 may be employed.
