Abstract

229,213. Blackstone, G. M., Carter, F., and Carter, E. Sept. 22, 1924. Addition to 228,261. Buffers, springs, and the like; cam, lever, and spring actuated pumps ; stroke, varying ; valvegear.-The internal-combustion engine fuel injection apparatus described in the parent Specification is modified by providing a light spring e which retracts the pump plunger d on its suction stroke, thus rendering unnecessary a second pump to supply the fuel under pressure to the injection pump. The amount of fuel drawn into the pump chamber c is dependent upon the position of a governor-controlled wedge r, which limits the outward stroke of the injection plunger. The governor o is driven from the camshaft 1, carrying a cam m, which actuates the injection plunger d through a lever k, sliding cap g and spring j. A further modification consists in the use of a fluid operated injection valve, the passage of fuel which is controlled by the pump delivery valve which prevents injection of fuel until the valve v is opened by a projection on the arm k while the spring j is being, compressed.
