Abstract
18,067. Balassa, F. July 30. Stroke, varying.-The output of the liquidfuel pump of an internal-combustion engine is governed by hand or the governor by varying the stroke. A cam 14 on a countershaft 13 actuates the pump plunger 2 through a doubleended lever 12 which carries a striking tappet 16 engaging a stepped or smooth face 21 on an adjustable block :c carried by the head of the plunger. The block x is connected to a lever 22 provided with a handle and notches which engage a pin 25 secured to the control lever 26 on a governor-controlled shaft 27. The construction enables the stroke of the plunger to be increased by hand at starting. In a modification, the block x and tappet 16 are replaced by an adjustable eccentric. The pump is of the single-acting type with ball suction and delivery valves, and an auxiliary delivery valve.
