Abstract

218,141. Johnson, E. Aug. 13, 1923. Auxiliary actuating gear; cam and lever actuated pumps; stroke, varying.- In a pump 34 for delivering variable, charges of fuel to the injection nozzle of an internal - combustion engine, the pump plunger 35 is actuated on its pressure stroke by a lever 37 and cam 40. and on its suction stroke by a spring 36. The length of the suction stroke is limited by a lug 42 on the lever 37, which engages a set screw 43, mounted on a member 44 rotatable about the same axis as the lever 37. The adjustment of this member 44 is effected by a screw 46, which bears against a post 47 rigid with the engine frame, a spring 48 being provided to ensure that the screw is in contact with the post. A handle, 50 provides for the manual operation of the pump at starting.
