Cam-actuating pumps; stroke, varying. - Relates to the regulation of internal-combustion engines by varying the stroke of the liquidfuel pump by means of the governor. Fig. 1 shows one form of device in which a shaft 1, rotated by the engine, carries a cam 9 on which bears a roller 8 carried by a slide 3. The move. ment of this slide effects the delivery-stroke of the pump-rod 4 against the action of a spring 6. The suction stroke is effected by the spring 6, its length being determined by a conical roller 11 carried by the slide 3 bearing) on a conical roller 12 axially adjusted by a lever 13 connected to the governor. In a modification, Fig. 3, the roller 11 is carried by a separate slide 14, so that it is always in contact with the roller 12.
