Cam-actuated pumps; lever-actuated pumps; tappet-actuated pumps; stroke, varying. - In a pump for supplying liquid fuel to internal-combustion engines, a lever 14 is.pivoted at 13 to the crank or cam shaft, or to some part mounted on one of them, and carries on one arm a roller 15, its other arm being secured to a spring, the other end of which is secured to the part to which the lever is pivoted. The roller 15 wipes a lever 16 which is pivoted to some fixed part of the engine and has the pump plunger 17 pressed against it by a spring. The position of the roller 15 varies with the speed of the engine, and the length of stroke of the pump is thus varied; but the position of the pivot 13 is chosen so that the stroke of the pump always commences at the same angular position of the main crank.
