Abstract

235,360. Franchetti, A. May 3, 1924. Cam and Lever actuated pumps ; rods ; regulating delivery by by-passes and opening suction valves; single-acting piston pumps; suction reservoirs.-In a fuel pump for internal-combustion engines, the time and duration of.injection are regulated by means of two cams g, h on the piston-actuating lever c, these cams engaging two levers r, s pivoted on two oppositely-disposed eccentrics on a shaft t under governor control. In the full-load position of the governor shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the cam g operates the lever r during the first part of the delivery stroke so that the suction or by-pass p is held open by the lever q. When the lever reaches the lower part of the cam g, the valve p closes and injection begins and continues until the end of the stroke, as the lever s is out of action during this period. In the no-load position of the rod y shown in Fig. 4, the lever r is out of action, injection takes place during the initial part of the stroke, and is cut off by the lever s opening the valve p. At any intermediate position of the rod y, the lever r opens the valve p for a variable period during the first part of the stroke and the lever s opens it for a variable period during the latter part of the stoke. The time and duration of injection may be adjusted also by means of the set screws u in the levers r, s. In another form, the levers r, s are operated by two cams on the shaft b, and the levers may be pivoted on the governor controlled eccentrics or on fixed fulcra the regulation being effected in the latter case by two governor controlled wedges between the levers r, s and the lever q.
