Abstract

196,612. Aktiebolaget Atlas Diesel. April 19, 1922, [Convention date]. Regulating.-In a governing-device wherein the fuel pump is provided with an overflow by-pass controlled by a valve the time of opening of which is varied by the governor, the valve is arranged so that air present in the charging passage gathers at the valve and escapes therethrough. The pump plunger 4 is actuated by a bell-crank 6 and a tappet rod 7 passing through a guide 8, and supplies fuel to the cylinder through a passage 11. The overflow by-pass 25 is controlled by a lift valve 12 through which air and surplus fuel escape when it is opened against the pressure of a spring 15 bv an arm 17 on the bell-crank 6. The time of opening of the valve 12 is varied by means of a wedge 18, which is moved along the arm 17 by the governor through a lever 20, rod 21, and a lateral arm 22 on the guide 8, which is rotatably mounted and ccnnected to the governor. In a modification. Fig. 2, the valve 12 is allowed to open by a lever 30 connected to the bell-crank 6 and eccentrically mounted at 29, the position of the eccentric being varied by the governor. Any air which is forced past the valve 12 is prevented from returning at the beginning of the suction stroke of the pump, by a valve 32. In another form, the valve 32 is omitted, its function being performed bv the valve 12, which is then fitted with an additional spring arranged between the valve stem and the actuating-plunger 31.
