Regulating delivery by by-passes and by accumulator connected to pump-barrel.-Fuel is supplied to the injection valve 19, Fig. 3, by a pump having a capacity larger than that of the fuel required for each injection through an accumulator comprising a cylinder 9, Fig. 2, containing a piston 10 supported by an adjustable spring 11. A by-pass valve 13 mounted in an extension of the piston and connected thereto by a lost-motion device is opened by movement of the piston at a predetermined pressure. The cam 23 is wedgeshaped and adjustable axially on its shaft to vary the duration of opening of the valve 19. The position of the roller 27 between the levers 26 and 22 is varied to control the lift of the valve 19, which may be of the form shown in Fig. 6. The fuel may be preheated by passing through a spiral passage in a liner (not shown) of the combustion chamber 21.
