Abstract

552,695. Stopping. SANDERS, A. F. Nov. 27, 1941, No. 15282. [Class 7 (v)] For stopping a high-compression engine, the combustion spaces 23 are vented by poppet valves 21, the stems of which coact with cam grooves 26 in a rod 27 moved axially by means which serve to discontinue the fuel supply while the valves are held open. As shown, the rod 27 is moved by one arm of a lever 13 actuated by a Bowden cable 12, the other arm of the lever being linked to an arm 15 acting on the control member 16 of fuel pumps 17. The head of the valve 21 may be shaped to conform to the curvature of the combustion space 23, and the valves may open into a closed space 24.
