Abstract

548,454. Fuel-injection valves. ORLOFF, G., and RUBERY OWEN MESSIER, Ltd. March 31, 1941, No. 4317. [Class 7 (iii)] In order to reduce dribbling past a fuel-injection valve, and to obtain a sharply defined comnencement and end of the injection, an accumulator piston 15 is provided which positively opens the injection valve 16 after it has been retracted a pre - determined amount. The upper end of the accumulator piston contacts with an enlarged head 42 on the valve after lost motion at 43 has been taken up. The piston 15 is preferably formed with an extension 22 which seats around the seating of the valve 16. The lift of the valve is limited by a stop 47, and separate springs 29, 34 are provided for the piston 15 and the valve 16. As the fuel pressure falls off, the piston 15 is closed by its spring, maintaining the fuel pressure on the end of the valve, which is also subsequently closed by its spring, and further maintains the pressure on the fuel being injected as it closes.
