(Class 7 (iii)] In a fuel-injection valve as described in the parent Specification, which is both opened and closed by the fuel pressure acting on opening and closing pistons, the spring which assists the closing of the injection valve is omitted. Fig. 1 shows the stem 49 of the injection valve connected to a closing-piston 48, to which fuel pressure is admitted at 41 bv a distributing valve 'in the manner described in the parent Specification. This fuel pressure also acts on another piston 47 which closes an obturating-plunger 32 over a passage 27 in a further plunger 23, 25. When injection is to commence the distributing valve cuts off the pressure at 41, and the fuel pressure admitted at 11 acts on the plunger 23, 25 to move it downwards into contact with a raised shoulder 30, after which this fuel pressure moves the plunger 32 downwards, and thus allows fuel to pass into the space beneath the plunger 25, and so by passages 59, 56 to the injection valve, which it opens. To close the injection valve, pressure is again admitted at 41, the remaining fuel pressure being relieved through the passages 59, 56, 33 to a chamber 29 open to atmosphere or to a drain ; or it may merely be relieved into a cavity at the upper end of the plunger 32, so that the fuel is not lost. The plunger 25 may be separate from the plunger 23, or may be omitted. Specification 501,632, is referred to.
