Abstract

736,794. Fuel-injection systems. KYLE, D. W. E. Aug. 12, 1953 [May 13, 1952], No. 12139/52. Class 7(3). [Also in Group XXVIII] The rate of opening of a fuel-pressure actuated injection valve 4 is controlled by a dashpot 9 and the fuel is injected through fine orifices 7 which are bored directly into the seat which the needle valve seals in its closed position. The dashpot 9 comprises a piston 8 which abuts the end of the valve stem 4 and the dash pot fluid, comprising fuel which escapes past the valve stem, escapes from the dash pot cylinder through an orifice 11 to allow the valve 4 to rise at a predetermined rate. The valve is quickly closed by its loading spring 6, the dashpot piston being returned into contact with the valve stem by a light spring 12. Modifications showing an adjustment of the dashpot escape orifice and showing a fuel pump operated by cylinder pressure are described which are identical with constructions described in Specification 720,011.
