Abstract
585,552. Fuel-injection pumps. PARKER, L. G. Feb. 28, 1945, No. 5036. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] A liquid-fuel injector valve 14 is opened, when a plunger 28 is depressed by an engine-driven cam, by the increase in fuel pressure acting on the underside of an enlarged piston portion 15 of the valve stem. Fuel entering the injector past a non-return valve 11 passes through a filter 12 to the space 21 above the piston 15, and is delivered to the tip 17 through grooves 22 in the outer wall of a sleeve 6 surrounding the piston and slots 25 in a guide 24. When the plunger 28 is raised by a spring 36, fuel enters the pump chamber 30 from the space 21 through a duct 31 and when the plunger is depressed the valve 11 closes and the pressure on the tip 17 increases until the duct 31 is closed. Further movement of the plunger increases the fuel pressure under the piston 15 until the valve 14 opens.
