494,951. Valve gear ; fuel injectors. ATTWOOD DIESEL EQUIPMENT CO., Ltd., GORDON, H., and ATTWOOD, S. H. May 1, 1937, No. 12499. [Classes 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] A liquid-fuel injector valve 8 controlling a nozzle orifice 3 leading from a recess 10, which is continuously supplied with fuel through pass. ages 11,12 in the valve stem, is closed by the fuel pressure acting on the upper end 15 of the valve stem, and opened by fuel pressure when admitted through a passage 19 to the underside 21 of an enlarged piston portion 17 of the valve stem. A light closing-spring 16 is also provided. Leak. age past the enlarged portion 17 escapes at 23. Fuel may be supplied to the cavity 13 above the valve stem by pumps constructed as described in Specification 494,952, [Group XXVIII], and to the passage 19 by means of a fuel-distributing valve as described in Specification 494,953. The fuel injection may be automatically controlled in accordance with the engine speed as described in Specification 494,954, [Group XXIX], and all may be combined in a single unit as described in Specification 494,955.
