Abstract

532,408. Regulating ; cylinder passages. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES SOC. ANON. Aug. 29, 1939, No. 24790. Convention date, July 1. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In multi-cylinder engines, the exhaust gases are prevented from blowing back into the scavenging supply passages at low powers by means of valves arranged in these passages. so as to be more or less closed at low powers but to open fully at high powers. Fig. 1 shows several cylinders 1 having exhaust valves 2 and inlet valves 3, 4 for scavenging-air and combustible mixture respectively supplied by pipes 6, 7 leading from an air supply conduit 5, the pipes 7 being fitted with carburetting- devices 8 and throttle valves 9. The scavenging-air pipes 6 are also fitted with throttle valves 10 which are carried by sleeves 13 movable on the spindle 11 of the throttles 9 to an amount limited by a fork 15 on the sleeve 13 engaging an arm 16 on the spindle 11, springs 14 being arranged to exert a closing action on the throttles 10, which is overcome only at high powers. The richness of the mixture may also be controlled by angular adjustment of the sleeves 13.
