Abstract

771,649. Regulating. MOORWOOD, A. G., and MOORWOOD, S. Aug. 25, 1955, No. 24455/55. Class 7 (6). A fuel economising device comprises a plate 4 fitted between an inlet manifold branch 1 and the corresponding cylinder inlet passage and carrying a throttle valve 6 controlling an opening 4 in the plate and movable from a fully opened position during normal running to a partially or fully closed position at idling. The device is fitted on one or more cylinders of a multicylinder engine e.g. on two cylinders of a four cylinder engine, the valve spindles being connected to a common operating rod 8, Fig. 3, or to separate operating rods 8, Fig. 6, which are connected to a union 9 carried by a spring loaded shaft 10 operated by a knob 14 situated on or beneath the dashboard. The knob 14 is provided with a spring catch 15 which, when the knob is pulled out, holds it in the position in which the valves 6 are in their closed positions, the spring 11 automatically returning the valves to their fully open position when the catch 15 is released. The plate 4 comprises a plurality of thin layers of metal or heat-resisting sheet material.
