716,997. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. March 25, 1952, No. 7681/52. Class 7(6) A valve-operating cam shaft is adjustable angularly or axially to vary the valve time or period of valve opening in accordance with engine speed by means of a speedresponsive govenor, e.g. a centrifugal governor and in accordance with engine load by means of a pressure responsive device actuated by the pressure in the engine admission passage. The cam shaft preferably controls the admission valves and the centrifugal governor and pressureresponsive device may be connected to a two-armed lever with an adjustable pivot, which lever may actuate an axially slidable helically grooved sleeve connecting the cam shaft to its driving shaft. The movement of the sleeve causes angular adjustment of the cam shaft relative to the driving shaft, which adjustment may cause the admission valves to open and close later as the speed rises.
