Abstract

589,657. Centrifugal governors. BRIGGS MANUFACTURING CO., and WYATT, R A. Oct. 6, 1944, No. 19201. [Class. 57] [Also in Group XXIX] A centrifugal governor for controlling the throttle valve of an internal-combustion engine through a fluid-pressure servomotor without any mechanical connection between the governor and the throttle valve comprises a casing 26 containing flyweights 60 pivoted on a bracket 57 secured to a shaft 28 driven from the engine by a bevel gear 59. Outward movement of the weights is limited by a ring 58. The weights 60 have curved thrust ends 60a engaging a thrust bearing 29 which in turn engages a yoke 30 secured to a rock-shaft 31. The yoke 30 has two spaced forks 32, 32a, the one engaging a reduced part of the servomotor control valve 33 and the other a rod 50 with a flange 50a at one end and an adjustable nut or collar 54 at its other end. A loading spring 55 in a boss 52a on the casing 26 abuts on the nut 54. A detachable cap 52 closes the open end of the boss 52a. The valve 33 controls the supply of pressure oil through pipes 20, 23 to opposite sides of a pivoted vane 19 working in a chamber 15 and connected to a butterfly throttle valve on the shaft 14.
