467,808. Fluid-pressure servomotors. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. Feb. 20, 1937 No. 5121. Convention date, May 9, 1936. [Class 135] A servomotor apparatus for adjusting the moment of injection in internal-combustion engines operating with fuel injection has the servomotor cylinder rotated by the engine and the piston which is rigidly connected with the timing member of the injection pump is so coupled with the rotating cylinder that on the piston being displaced longitudinally it is rotated with respect to the cylinder. The cylinder 3 rotated by a gear wheel 1 secured to a flange 2 is rotatably secured in a bearing 4 by a cap 37. One end of the cylinder is closed by a cover 9 provided with lugs 10 to which the weighted arms 13 of a centrifugal governor are pivoted. The piston 21 has a tubular tail slidable in the cover 9 and provided with radial ports 25, 27. The ports 25 communicate by passages 23, 24, 8, and 7 with a pipe 6 supplied with lubricating oil under pressure. The port 27 is controlled by a piston valve 17 actuated by the governor to control the admission to and exhaust from the pressure chamber 28. The piston has an extension 29 hollowed out to provide a housing for a spring 36 and externally formed with radial arms 30 adapted to engage between bifurcations formed on the end of a shaft 35 driving the fuel injection pump. Rectangular steep thread convolutions are provided on the projections 30 engaging corresponding grooves in the cylinder so that as the piston is moved, the relative angular positions of the driving pinion and the shaft 35 are varied.
