Abstract

847,748. Reversing. GOTAVERKEN A. B. Sept. 11, 1958 [Oct. 10, 1957], No. 29177/58. Class 7(5). In a reversible two-stroke engine in which fuel pumps 4 as well as exhaust means 3 are controlled by a common control shaft 2 driven by the crank-shaft 1 of the engine, the transmission between the shafts comprises a device by means of which the control shaft in order to reverse the direction of rotation of the engine can be turned through the required number of degrees in the new direction of rotation without change of the position of the crank-shaft. The cams actuating the exhaust valve means are devised and arranged to cause the valve to close substantially at the time when the scavenging parts of the pertaining cylinder are covered and to open the valve a certain angle ahead of the parts. The fuel pumps 1 are actuated by cams each having two effective cam faces interconnected by a circular part and arranged in such a manner relative to the control shaft that for each cam face that part of the total pump stroke which corresponds to a preliminary pump movement up to ignition corresponds to half of the angle referred to. Thus as shown in Fig. 3 a piston 21 is movable axially by fluid pressure with resulting mutual displacement of the rim 18 and hub 22. The fluid under pressure may be lubricating oil or starting air. As shown in Fig. 4 the cam of the fuel pump has two cam faces 14 and 15 for forward and backward rotation respectively. The control means for the fluid under pressure may be coupled to the main control of the engine. If the control shaft is located at a higher level the intermediate wheel 8 may be replaced by a chain.
