Abstract

412,136. Shaft couplings. BOSCH AKT.-GES., R., 4, Militõrstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. Jan. 18, 1934, No. 1762. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1933. [Class 80 (ii).] In a fuel-injection pump for an automobile engine the pump shaft c is coupled to the driving shaft 13 by a sleeve 11 which engages helical grooves 10 on the shaft c and axial grooves 12 on the shaft 13, and the sleeve is moved axially, to vary the timing of injection, by a piston exposed to the pressure in the engine induction pipe. The piston may be integral with the sleeve 11. As shown the piston 22 is located in a cylinder 23 connected to the induction pipe f in front of the throttle valve g by a pipe 24 having an oblique end. The piston acts on a lever 20 connected by a link 19 to a lever 18 on a spindle 17 carrying a fork which engages a groove on the sleeve 11. The lever 20 can also be operated by a manual control 26.
