Class 7(6) In a fuel injection engine, of the kind defined in Specification 622,197, the time lag between a sudden depression of an accelerator pedal and the increase of fuel output is suppressed by an auxiliary vacuum, created by a bellows connected directly or indirectly to the pedal, which acts upon a vacuum-responsive member controlling the fuel output. On depression of a pedal 1, Fig. 1, a movable wall 2a creates a vacuum in a pipe line 3 connected to a conduit 4 which connects vacuum-responsive fuel control member 17 with air inlet Venturi 15 through an orifice 5. A momentary over-pressure in the conduit 3 caused by release of the pedal, is prevented from communicating with the conduit 4 by a non-return valve 7 and is vented by a non- return valve 8, and excessive vacuum caused by sudden pedal movement is relieved by a non- return valve 6. In a modification Fig. 2, the wall 2a is connected to a diaphragm of a chamber 10 which is responsive to the vacuum prevailing downstream of the air intake throttle control. Thus a vacuum drop, caused by a sudden opening of the air throttle, allows a spring 11 to move the diaphragm and thereby the wall 2a.
