Abstract

1,098,825. Valves. PETROL INJECTION Ltd., and H. E. JACKSON. March 16, 1965 [March 18, 1964; June 24, 1964], Nos. 11558/64 and 8174/65. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] The response of a suction-actuated valve-controlling piston 14 to sudden decrease in the suction is increased by an atmospheric vent device 5 in the suction pipe 3. As shown the piston 14 controls an internal-combustion engine fuel metering valve and is actuated by suction in the intake manifold 1. The vent device 5 comprises a diaphragm 10 which closes an atmospheric vent pipe 7 during steady state conditions, the opposite sides of the diaphragm being connected through a restriction 8. Sudden opening of the throttle valve 2 produces a rise in pressure in chamber 4 which, due to restriction 8, is not transmitted immediately to chamber 9, whereby diaphragm 10 opens the vent 7 and atmospheric pressure is applied immediately to piston 14 to increase the response. The device is described incorporated in a fuel metering system similar to that described in Specification 1,098,823.
