Abstract

969,877. Timing ignition. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. March 8, 1963 [March 9, 1962], No. 9221/63. Heading FIB. The timing of the spark is controlled by a device 1 responsive to both the pressure at a Venturi 10 in the intake and to the pressure downstream of the Venturi and adjacent the throttle valve 12, the point being connected to the device through a metering orifice, and a one-way valve 25 is opened when the latter pressure is higher than the pressure in the Venturi so that the influence of the pressure adjacent the throttle valve on the device is then greater than when the pressure adjacent the throttle valve is less than the pressure in the Venturi whereby the Venturi vacuum which produces the spark advance at full throttle is reduced by air flow through the valve and the influence of the intake vacuum on the spark advance at part throttle is reduced by the orifice. The ignition timing device 1 may be substantially the same as that described in U.S.A. Specification 2,659,353.
