Class 7(3) In a carburetter provided with an auxiliary device for starting and running the engine when cold, the device comprising a source of rich starting mixture or fuel and a distributer 15 adapted to establish or to interrupt the admission to the induction manifold 1 of the carburetter downstream of the throttle 3 thereof of air and of rich mixture or fuel, an obturator 24 urged against the action of a resilient device by the depression in the induction manifold downstream of the throttle being provided downstream of the distributer with a view to reducing the supply of rich mixture when the depression increases, the conduit between the distributer and the obturator is connected (passage 38) to at least one aperture leading into the induction manifold at such a position that the aperture passes from upstream to downstream of the throttle 3 when this throttle leaves its idling position. When the aperture or apertures 39 pass downstream of the throttle valve following opening of the latter a greatly reduced pressure is transmitted to the passage 29 and fuel from the well 8 enters the passage 38 from whence it emerges through the aperture or apertures 39 into the induction manifold. The aperture or apertures such as 39 may be the same as those which are already used to actuate the ignition advance compensator. The distributer 15 may be manually or automatically controlled.
