Abstract

1280886 Spray carburetters TOYO KOGYO CO Ltd 23 June 1969 [11 July 1968] 31640/69 Heading F1B This invention relates to apparatus for limiting the maximum power or speed of an I. C. engine. In one embodiment, a carburetter having primary and secondary barrels 15, 18, Fig. 1, has a diaphragm-actuated valve 17 for varying the crosssectional area of its air intake in response to the degree of vacuum in the engine air induction system as communicated to diaphragm chamber 24 through ports 20, 21 and conduit 25. However, when the engine speed exceeds a predetermined value, a speed sensor 34 closes a switch 35 to cause opening of solenoid valve 29a and thereby communication of chamber 24 with atmosphere and consequent closure of valve 17. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the solenoid switch (37) is actuated when the vacuum (and thereby engine power) in the carburetter air intake exceeds a predetermined value. In a third embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), comprising a carburetter of the suction-actuated piston, variable-area Venturi type having an accelerator-pedal-actuated valve downstream of the piston, the suction space above the piston is communicated with atmosphere, during excessive speed or power, via a solenoid valve controlled by means similar to either of those. employed in the Figs. 1 and 2 embodiments.
