Abstract

1368472 Regulating I C engine fuel and air supply; recirculating exhaust gases ALFA ROMEO SpA 21 Oct 1971 [24 Oct 1970] 49078/71 Heading F1B With the throttle valve 2 closed and the engine speed above a predetermined value the flow of air through a by-pass 4 around the throttle valve and the injection of fuel are cut-off. In the embodiment shown a solenoid 23 is energized to move the valve 21 to close the by-pass 4 when a switch 40, closed when the valve 2 is closed, is closed simultaneously with a switch 39 closed when a predetermined vacuum in the intake duct 12 is exceeded. Means for cutting off the fuel injection is operated simultaneously with energization of the solenoid 23. When the valve 21 closes the by-pass 4 it opens an exhaust gas recirculation duct 17, 19 containing a gas and liquid cyclone filter 27. The calibrated port 5 restricts the amount of exhaust gas recirculation. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown) a needle valve (6, 7) operated by a solenoid (8), closes the by-pass 4 when a throttle position responsive switch (32) and a switch (33), operated by a device (28) receiving a signal which is function of engine speed, are closed simultaneously.
