Abstract
710,806. Speed governors. BOSCH GES., R. April 3, 1952 [April 4, 1951], No. 8515/52. Class 57.- In a speed governor for an internal combustion engine, the control member 1 of the fuel-injection pump is actuated by a spring-loaded diaphragm &c. 3 exposed to the pressure in the air manifold 15 between the throttle valve 16 and the engine, and a rotary valve 11 driven by the engine is provided to establish this connection during the periods that the engine pistons are making 'an induction stroke. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the valve is in the form of segments 17 that are pivoted at 30 and move outwardly under centrifugal force so that the valve is operative at high engine speeds and inoperative at lower speeds, whilst at lowest speeds a disc 35 is moved into the opening 43 to throttle the connection between the manifold 15 and the chamber 4. The speed at which the segments i 7 move is controlled by a spring 36 adjustable by a cam 38. The throttle valve may be loaded by a spring against an abutment on the manual adjustment lever, the strength of the spring being such that it permits the valve to move towards its closed position when the pressure falls below that necessary to maintain the control member 1 in its stop position.
