Abstract

683,725. Regulating; pumps. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Oct. 6, 1950 [Oct. 7, 1949], No. 24505/50. Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi). In an engine wherein a supercharging blower is cut in at a predetermined position of the fuel control means, a time-delay device retards increase of fuel while the blower is being cut in. The accelerator pedal a is connected by a link b and lost motion connection c to the fuel -pump control rod d. At the point A' a stop q on the link b contacts a lever p to actuate an exhaust by-pass valve n to bring into action a supercharging blower h driven by an exhaust turbine f, and a lever r connected to a hydraulic dash-pot device t contacts the casing c' to hold the lever d stationary while lost motion occurs in the connection c and the spring c<SP>2</SP> is compressed. The rod d is then moved forward slowly by the spring c<SP>2</SP> under the control of the dash-pot t which is arranged so that the rate of increase of fuel corresponds to the rate of increase of the air flow while the blower is gaining speed. The dash-pot comprises a piston u in a liquid filled cylinder having the opposite ends connected through a small orifice v. A non-return valve x permits a quick return of the piston u if the dash-pot is to operate only on cutting in of the pump.
