Class 110(iii) [Also in Group XXIX] A device for regulating the fuel flow to a gasturbine engine etc. by controlling a fuel by-pass valve 48 and of the kind comprising a landed piston valve 12 actuated by an engine-driven governor 11 and controlling a double-acting servo-piston 54 which actuates the by-pass valve, a slidable followup sleeve 13 surrounding the piston valve, and a follow-up connection between the sleeve and the servopiston consisting of a rocker 73 and a spring- centred rod 61 carrying a piston 60 mounted within the hollow servo-piston and having a leaky hydraulic link therewith so that operation of the by-pass valve is accompanied by a temporary resetting of the sleeve 13 to stabilize the action of the regulator, is characterized by the provision of a spring-loaded diaphragm 83 subject on one side to the air pressure generated by the compressor of the engine and on the other side to atmospheric or compressor inlet pressure, and acting on the follow-up mechanism so as to modify the response of the regulator in accordance with engine speed and atmospheric pressure in a manner to prevent dangerously high or low rates of fuel flow during acceleration or deceleration of the engine. As shown, the diaphragm 83 is connected to a slidable member 77 which carries a movable fulcrum 75 for the rocker 73, whilst in a modification the diaphragm is connected by rack and pinion to screwed abutments on either side of a flange 68 on the rod 61 so as to vary the freedom permitted the rod. The piston valve 12, which is connected for rotation with the governor weights, is loaded by a spring 31 acting through a ball bearing 32a, and the sleeve 13 is loaded by a spring 33. Both of these springs abut a sleeve 29 which is adjustable by a lever 39 acting through a rotary edge cam 35.
