Abstract

769,103. Gas-turbine plant. ROLLSROYCE, Ltd. July 14, 1955 [July 14, 1954,] No. 20555/54. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] Speed governing means in the fuel system of a gas turbine engine comprises a pressuresensitive device subject to the delivery pressure of the compressor of the engine or a function thereof and means sensitive to the delivery temperature of the compressor or a function thereof whereby the governing means limits the engine speed to a value which is both a function of the delivery pressure and of the delivery temperature of the compressor. As shown, the governing means is of the kind in which a variable swash plate pump 53 is adjusted by a servo-piston 60 under the control of a leak-off valve 11 which is actuated by a diaphragm 13 loaded by a spring 16 and subject, in opposition to the spring, to a pressure generated centrifugally by the pump. The compressor delivery pressure and temperature act respectively on a diaphragm 18 and a Bourdon tube 24 both of which engage a lever 23 carrying a leak-off valve 26 loaded by a spring 24a and controlling a piston 17 to which the spring 16 is anchored, the arrangement being such that an increase in either the compressor delivery pressure or temperature moves the valve 26 towards closure and causes pressure to increase at the right-hand side of the piston 17 to reduce the loading of the spring 16 on the diaphragm 13 whereby the governor operates at a lower speed.
