Abstract
732,545. Centrifugal governors; gas-turbine plant. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. April 8, 1952 [April 18, 1951], No. 8979/52. Classes 57 and 110 (3). [Also in Group XXIX] The fuel supply to a gas turbine is metered by a valve 46 actuated by a centrifugal governor weight 78 loaded by a spring 51 adjustable by a lever 56 to set the governor to control at various speeds. A second centrifugal weight 82, loaded by an adjustable spring 83, has a cam surface that obstructs the movement of a projection 81, on the bell-crank 78<SP>1</SP> carrying the weight 78, during low speeds. When the lever 56 is moved from a low-speed setting to a high-speed setting, the movement of the metering valve 46 is first restricted until the weight 82 has moved the cam surface from the path of the projection 81. The supply of fuel to the metering valve 46 is obtained through pipe 15 having a by-pass valve 16, loaded by a spring 24, and also a regulating valve 27. The opening of the regulating valve 27 is controlled by a diaphragm loaded on one side by the full pressure in the chamber 26 and on the other side by the pressure in chamber 85 which is obtained by passing fuel from chamber 26 through passage 32 to a controlled throttle valve 86, adjusted by a temperature responsive device 93, and. then to chamber 85 and through passage 95 to a controlled throttle valve 97 adjusted by a pressure, responsive device 101. The load exerted by the diaphragm is balanced by a, centrifugal force developed by a weight 40, rotated from the turbine, and transmitted through the lever 35. The temperature and pressure responsive devices 93, 101 may respond to changes in the compressor air inlet temperature or pressure or related temperatures and pressures such as those in a stage in the compressor.
