Abstract

594,494. Spray carburetters. ELLIS, R. G. June 12, 1945, Nos. 14852 and 19299. [Class 7 (iii)] An overrunning device in a carburetter of the type having a fuel jet controlled by a needle valve attached to a suction-actuated piston, comprises speed responsive means for reducing the suction on the fuel jet when the throttle is closed with the engine running at high speeds. In Fig. 1, release of the accelerating pedal. 9 to close the throttle 10 closes a switch 8 so that at speed a solenoid 1 is energised from an engine-driven dynamo 6 and maintains the fuelregulating piston assembly 3 retracted in its fully-open position against the tendency of the valve to close due to the drop in suction. The switch 8 comprises a bridge portion 8a, attached to a rod 8b connected.to the accelerating pedal, which closes the contacts 8e. A hand operated switch 7 is provided to cut out the dynamo when manoeuvring the vehicle. A modification for a downdraught carburetter has a switch mechanism formed by two spring strips provided with contact points.
