Abstract

562,111. Mixing air and gas. GRAVEN, G. F., and GARNEET, G. W. G. March 2, 1943, No. 3402. [Class 7 (ii)] An automatic air inlet valve G for a mixer for-air and producer gas &c. in open communication with the engine is actuated by suction which draws down a piston K, connected by a link J and arm H to the valve, against the action of a spring M, the suction depending on engine speed and the position of a gas valve B. When' used with an engine designed for compression ignition, a stop 11, Fig. 3, limiting the maximum fuel delivery is set to provide only the small quantity necessary to ignite the gas and after the control has contacted this stop, a lost motion connection P permits the continued movement of the accelerator to control the gasvalve B. When the mixer is not in use, a pin- and-slot connection O on the gas valve control rod C renders the valve inoperative.
