Abstract

332,252. Amalgamated Carburetters, Ltd., and Brown, C. Jan. 18, 1929. S p r i n g - actuated pumps.-To facilitate engine acceleration, fuel is forced through a separate nozzle by a member actuated from the throttle valve through resilient means, the straining of which during opening movement of the throttle causes fuel to be discharged over a period independent of the throttle movement. A member b, Figs. 3, 5, adjustably clamped to the throttle valve spindle, is adapted to displace a spring-loaded arm c pivoted freely on the spindle housing, and connected through a link e with a member f inside a piston g which serves to inject the additional fuel. Between the member f and the bottom of the piston is a spring h which, during opening movement of the throttle, is compressed but subsequently recovers its original form and during this period injects the fuel. The period of throttle movement during which injection occurs may be varied by adjusting the arm b. Fuel enters the cylinder below the piston g from the float chamber p through a duct q provided with a ball valve r. The displaced fuel passes by way of a conduit k, Fig. 5, and duct l<1> to the injection nozzle. A ball valve l at the top of conduit k is adapted on a forcing stroke to close a vent o to atmosphere, and at other times to prevent a return flow of fuel. In a modification, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), the piston g is actuated during the early part of the throttle opening, its movement being checked by a stop while the opening of the throttle valve continues. Specification 320,848, [Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting-apparatus &c. for], is referred to.
