600,220. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. Aug. 31, 1945, No. 22483. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1944. [Class 7 (iii)] A diaphragm acceleration pump actuated by the suction on the engine side of the throttle valve 2 is provided with a byepass passage 18 controlled bv a ball-valve 19 to cause fuel to be discharged back to the float chamber 8 when the throttle valve is closed on stopping. The valve 19 is normally kept closed by a rod 20 connected to a rod 22 urged downwards by a spring 21, the fuel then discharging during acceleration through a delivery conduit 16 leading to a nozzle 17, but when the throttle valve is near the idling position an arm 25 on the spindle moves the rod 22 up and opens the valve 19, the passage 18 offering less resistance to flow than conduit 16. In a modification, the inlet to the delivery conduit 16 is arranged to be closed by the valve 19 when the byepass passage 18 is opened.
