Abstract

159,758. Matricardi, G. Feb. 18, 1920. Spray carburettors.-In engines working normally on a heavy fuel, starting and acceleration are facilitated by injecting a light fuel into the carburettor by a pump actuated from the carburettor throttle valve, means being also provided for obtaining an injection independently of the pump. A light fuel tank is connected through passages 6, 10, 11, 12 and 5 with the carburettor 1. A non-return valve 7 is located in passage 6 and a spring loaded valve 13, which may be actuated through a cable 17 and lever 16, in passage 11. The passage 5 has an air inlet 18. A chamber 8 between passages 10, 11 has a pump plunger 19 connected through arm 20, set-screw 21 and rod 3 with throttle-valve lever 2. During closing of the throttle valve the plunger 19 draws fuel into chamber 8. Opening of the throttle valve, causes fuel to be injected along with air through inlet 18. The delivery passages being small, rapid movement of the throttle valve is prevented. An independent injection of light fuel can be obtained at any time by pulling the cable 17. The parts 20, 3 may be coupled or uncoupled as desired.
