Abstract

1507480 Spray carburetters HAROLD PHELPS Inc 9 Dec 1975 [19 Dec 1974] 50404/75 Heading F1H The flow of fuel to a main nozzle 22 is stopped when the throttle valve 28 is closed, an idling nozzle 82 opening downstream of the valve providing fuel for slow running and the nozzles receiving fuel from a return line 38 between the pump 12 and the tank 32. In the embodiment shown a diaphragm 84 subject to the suction downstream of the valve 28 operates a lever 98 pivoted by a sealing ring 102 to move a ball-valve 104 into engagement with its seat 106 when the valve 28 is closed. In a second embodiment, Fig.3 (not shown), the valve 28 engages a cam surface (126) at one end of the lever (98') when the valve is closed. The pump diaphragm 60 is operated by pressure pulsations in a chamber 64 communicating with the crank-case of an associated two-stroke engine. The Venturi 18 located in the induction passage 24 by the nozzle 22 has an annular recess 21 in its downstream end to inhibit back flow from the passage downstream of the Venturi.
