Abstract

1,007,736. Reciprocating pumps; fuel injection systems. WALKER MANUFACTURING CO. July 19, 1962, No. 27882/62. Headings F1A and F1B. A pump 910, Fig. 1, disposed about the stem of an air intake valve 922 injects rich fuel-air mixture into the intake manifold immediately upstream of the intake valve 2 Figs. 1 and 3, the rich mixture is supplied by a carburetter 928 through a pipe 933 and flap valve 1150 to a pump space 1121 formed around the cylinder air inlet valve 922. The pump is formed by a sleeve 994 fixed to the valve stem and reciprocating in a cylinder 1102. A sleeve valve 984 on the valve stem controls the pump outlet port 982, the compressed charge in the space 1121 being forced through passages 982, 965, into the air entering the cylinder when the sleeve valve 984 opens on the opening movement of the valve 922. The air throttle valve 926 is controlled conjointly with a fuel metering valve 930 in the carburetter 928. In a modification the pump is actuated by an overhead cam-shaft.
