Abstract

1,153,559. Cylinder Induction systems. H. WESLAKE. April 22, 1966, No. 22894/68. Divided out of 1, 151, 561. Heading F1B. A secondary inlet manifold 73, Fig. 1, is branched off the main inlet manifold 72 upstream of the throttle valve 75, heating means being provided for the manifold 73. The heating means may comprise a passage 97 for exhaust gases cast integral with the manifold 73, Fig. 4. A valve 80, Fig. 4, may be provided in the manifold 73 and inter-linked with the throttle valve 75 through a lost motion device 83 so that the valve 80 opens before valve 75. The manifold branches 73 may lead to separate cylinder inlet valves 71 or they may be connected to the branches of the main manifold 72. In Fig. 1 separate carburetters are connected to two main manifolds 74, 74a, which are inter-connected by a pressure balance pipe 78. Alternatively fuel injection nozzles may be mounted in the passage 74, 74a, to supply the manifolds 73, 73a, and separate fuel injectors provided in the branches of manifolds 72, 72a.
