Abstract

509,278. Fuel-injection pumps. BOSCH GES. R. April 29, 1938, No. 12812. Convention date, April 29, 1937. [Class 102 (i)] In a fuel-injection supply system, a fuelinjection pump 1 is fed by pumps 4 through an air separator 6. The suction chamber 1a of the pump 1 is provided with a non-return valve 12 and the air separator 6 is connected to the chamber 9a by a pipe 10. The chamber 9a has a non-return valve 15 leading to the suction vessel 3. A throttle passage 8a is provided to by-pass the non-return valve 12. When the system is being primed by the hand pump H, air is allowed to pass from the suction chamber 1a to the chamber 9a but considerable resistance is offered to the flow of fuel. A similar by-pass 18 is fitted to the overflow valve 15. The by-pass passage may be arranged in the movable members of the valves 12, 15 and that in valve 12 may be fitted with a non-return valve. The valve 12 may be in the form of a slide valve. The passage 10 is arranged so that a part 10a of it is above the highest point of the fuel feed system.
