Abstract

446,144. Spray carburetters; pumps. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES., 110, Scheffelstrasse, Chemnitz, Germany. July 4, 1935, No. 19164. Convention date, July 4, 1934. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] In a fuel supply system operating periodically with suction or supercharging, the induction manifold 1 is fed by a suction tube 2, provided with a Venturi 6 and fuel nozzle 8, and by a pressure pipe 3 in front of which is a compressor 4 provided with a separate suction pipe 5 in which are a Venturi 7 and fuel nozzle 9 ; the nozzles may be parts of separate carburetters or, as shown, be supplied by a single float chamber 10. The accelerator pedal 14 controls through extensible rods 12, 13 a throttle valve 11 in the suction tube 2 and in the latter part of its movement engages a spring-pressed abutment 29, displacement of which opens a valve 24 in an oil supply pipe to permit a piston 26 to throw in the clutch 28 of the compressor, and simultaneously opens a valve 32 past which fuel flows to the nozzle 9. The pressure built up by the compressor displaces a piston 17, connected to the pressure pipe 3, to close a valve 15 in the suction pipe 2 and open a valve 20 in the pipe 3.
