Abstract
499,741. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. Sept. 5, 1938, No. 25950. Convention date, Sept. 4, 1937. [Class 7 (vi)] In engines wherein an anti-knock liquid is supplied when the supercharger is brought into action, means are provided for preventing increase of the charging pressure when the anti-knock liquid is not available, due to failure of the supply. The Figure shows an engine with a supercharger 4 supplying the air intake 5 and controlled by a clutch 3, the anti-knock liquid being supplied from a tank 15 by a pump 12 controlled by a clutch 13. The pressure of the liquid supplied by the pump 12 is made to act on a piston 20 connected to a throttle 23 on the intake 5. When the clutches 4 and 13 are operated, the supercharger and pump 12 are started to supply the increased charging pressure and the anti-knock liquid. If the supply of the latter fails, a spring 19 acting on the piston 20 opens the throttle 23, so that the air supplied by the supercharger escapes. The anti-knock liquid is injected through pipes 16 to inlet pipes 5<1>, the main fuel being supplied by a pump 8 and pipes 9 to the injectors. An altitude capsule 21 may also be connected to the throttle 23 on aircraft. Instead of cutting out the auxiliary pump 12, the liquid supplied thereby may be controlled by a byepass.
