Abstract
551,869. Fuel injection pumps. AKT.-GES. SAURER, A. May 29, 1942, No. 7318. Convention date, July 31, 1941. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In an injection internal-combustion engine in which a. throttling point 10 of fixed size is provided between the suction chamber 11 and the working chamber 6 of the fuel injection pump 1, and in which the fuel is supplied to the suction chamber 11 under pressure by an engine-driven feed pump 22, the speed of the engine is regulated by a member 16 which is automatically controlled in dependence upon the engine speed, and which, at normal engine speeds, maintains sufficient pressure in the suction chamber 11 to ensure a complete filling of the working chamber 6, but at engine speeds above a predetermined maximum, considerably reduces this suction pressure and therefore the quantity of fuel delivered to the pump 1. The rotatable piston 3 has a groove 4 with an inclined upper edge to co-operate with a reflex passage 7 leading to a pressure relief chamber 12 which is connected to the suction chamber 11 by a throttling point 13. The regulator 16 includes a piston 19 controlled by a spring 20 and formed with a longitudinal bore 25 in communication with the pressure chamber 24 of the pump 22, and radial bores 27, 26 adapted to co-operate, respectively, with a pipe 17 leading to the suction chamber 11, and a return pipe 28. The inclined edge of the groove 4 may be dispensed with by providing a lever to vary the compression of the spring 20.
