Abstract
634,085. Reciprocating pumps. PRECISION MECANIQUE. May 17, 1946, No. 14997. Convention date, July 18. 1941. [Class 102(i)] In a pump, suitable for a fuel-injection pump, a member 7 is fitted to the end of the pump cylinder and has throttle passages 8, 14 in staggered relationship. When the pump piston 1 is adjusted to suit idling speeds, and the speed increases, then the member 7 is raised until the lower end of the passage 8 is cut off and the member 7 is moved further into the chamber 10. On the next delivery stroke the amount of fuel displaced from chamber 10 has to be made up and the fuel delivered past the valve 5 is decreased as the speed rises. When the piston 1 is set to give larger amounts of fuel the member 7 operates similarly but the groove 14 comes into operation and provides a further similar operation so that two flat portions occur in the curve showing the relationship between fuel supply and engine speed. In a modification, the throttle conduit may be arranged in the cylinder and the member 7 loaded by springs that come into operation successively. Specification 523,163 is referred to.
