Valves; valve-gear.-The aamission of mixture pump is formed in the hollow stem of a mechanically-actuated air inlet valve 3 by providing a fixed plunger 5 over which the air valve works. On the downward movement of the air valve, the fuel valve, of the pump remains seated until it is tapped open by contact of the collar 14 on the air valve stem with the projection 13 on the rod attached to the fuel valve 7. The chamber 16 thus fills with fuel, which is injected into the cylinder when the air valve 3, closes. The amount of fuel injected depends upon the normal distance between the projections 13 and 14, which may be varied by means of a left- and right-hand threaded nut 15 actuated by the governor.
