[Class 7 (iii)] In a fuel-injection device in which a pump 5 supplies fuel under pressure to a series of nozzles A each comprising a valve 6 and closing spring 7, the springs of the nozzles being of different strengths to ensure that the valves, which are opened by the fuel pressure, open successively, the fuel pressure is determined by a byepass 15 controlled by a valve 8 opened by the fuel pressure acting against a spring 9 to the limit permitted by the engagement in a slot 13 in the throttle control rod 12 of the end of the control lever 11 for the valve. The fuel may be injected directly into the cylinders or into an external chamber 1 to which air is admitted past a valve 16 coupled to either the lever 11 or the rod 12.
