Abstract

1,212,865. Regulating dual-fuel I. C, engines. RUSTON & HORNSBY Ltd. July 15, 1968 [July 25, 1967], No.34112/67. Heading F1B. The air intake butterfly valve 11 of a dual fuel engine is controlled by a mechanical linkage 12, 15, 25, 22, 21 actuated by a governor controlled shaft 20 of the gaseous fuel supply system. The operation of the valve 11 by the shaft 20 is over-ridden when the liquid fuel supply is in excess of a pilot injection quantity by venting the supply of liquid under pressure to the piston and cylinder 34 and 35 and allowing the spring 32 to move the lever 31 to act on lever 25 and hold the valve 11 open. In a supercharged engine the rod 15 may actuate a valve in the intake 10 upstream of the valve 11 to spill air to the exhaust system or to atmosphere.
